SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WRGB) – We first met Carlie Mace while interviewing staff at the New Choices Recovery Center in Schenectady. She was there for one of her regular meetings and offered to tell us her story of addiction, which started with marijuana as young as 13 and took a more serious turn about six years ago.

“My back was hurting a lot and I didn’t’ know what to do. I’d just had a baby and had to care for my child and do everything. I had a 5 year old at the time. You can’t just sit around and be in pain you have to keep going” Mace said.

She went to a hospital and got a prescription for the pain. Carlie told us she had no idea how good the medications would make her feel – and how much agony withdrawal would put her through. “I was on top of the world, nobody could stop me. I could take care of my 5 year old, I could take care of my infant child, I could work two jobs and I just felt like I was on top of the world, until it was too late.”

During a follow up appointment, a drug screen found cocaine in Carlie’s system, something she told us she used recreationally. That meant no more legal meds. Carlie told us about the first time she went to buy pills off the street, and found something stronger and cheaper…

Officials say Drug Addiction on the Rise in Iraq and Kurdistan Region

We can hardly see a place or a country that is drug-free, especially in this modern time. It is just saddening to know that more and more people are letting themselves to get addicted to drugs. ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — On the International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking, officials and NGOs claim the number of drug addicts in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq are increasing, citing different factors.

“Unfortunately, the users of drugs in the Kurdistan Region increase on a daily basis. Currently about 10,000 individuals in all the three provinces of the Kurdistan Region are drug users,” said Ibrahim Ramadhan, the head of the Organization for Countering Drugs.He believes the number isn’t at an alarming level according to international standards.

“We have to tackle it and prevent it so that it doesn’t spread even more,” said Ramadhan.

Ramadhan claimed the social fabric in the Kurdistan Region will be unraveled with the spread of the drugs.

He revealed that obtaining drugs has become easier through “mafias and greedy traders”

Ramadhan claimed that Kurdish youth travel to Iran and Turkey, where they encounter drugs for the first time and use them, as a reason why they get addicted.

There are three counter-drug organizations in the Kurdistan Region.

“We haven’t been able to sufficiently work up to now because the financial conditions of the organizations are very bad,” the counter-drug head said.

Ramadhan said that it was the duty of the government to tackle the issue, especially the Ministry of Health, as there are lax regulations on dealing in pharmaceuticals…

About 2 Million Russians Suffer from Drug Addiction

We know for a fact that there indeed is a problem with drug addiction. But when we look at the number of people who are addicted to it, it can be very alarming. MOSCOW, June 4. /TASS/. The Russian Interior Ministry has reported about 2 million Russian citizens as suffering from drug addiction, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said in an interview with the NTV channel.

“As many as 500,000 citizens are officially registered with the Russian Health Ministry over drug addiction. These are official figures, but sociological surveys show that about 2 million our citizens are involved in this issue,” the minister said, responding to the question on the number of drug addicts in Russia.

That said, Kolokoltsev noted that the war on drugs in Russia is successful and systematic. He reiterated that the activity of a large international drug network consisting of 10 branches was shut down in 2017. “They’ve been working on the territory of the Russian Federation for 10 years; there was even a power bloc for addressing arising issues. The chieftain of the drug network got life imprisonment for his actions for the first time in history, 14 members were jailed to 6 to 25 years, and 12 more members are internationally wanted. This work is systematic, and we indeed are stepping up our efforts,” Kolokoltsev noted.

Heavy Price for Drug Addiction

As they say, for whatever it is that you do, there’s always a price that you have to pay. It’s just like saying that if you do good, then you will be getting something good in return as well. But if you do something bad, you are likely to suffer as a result. This is very true when talking about drug addiction. Abuse of drugs lead to something harmful and dangerous, reaching the point of losing one’s life.

This is what happened to a youth in Manjunathapura in Mysuru. The youth was addicted to marijuana because the substance is easily available in Mysuru. He was depressed and had difficulty battling his addictions, thus leading him to commit suicide.

Mysuru, May 280- A youth died of drug addiction at Manjunathapura in the city here on Saturday. Chandu (26) is the victim. He was allegedly addicted to marijuana. He was depressed as he was unable to come out of the addiction and committed suicide by hanging.

People allege that marijuana is easily available in Mysuru. They urge the police to take strict action to control the drug menace in the city. VV Puram police have registered a complaint. (MR/KS).

New Statewide Resource Puts Drug Addiction Help in One Location

It’s frustrating to see that despite all the efforts to stop drug addiction, the number of people who keeps and starts using it is still increasing. What is worse is the fact that the majority of crimes, not just in one country but globally, has drug addiction as the root cause. A lot of users also harm not only other people or themselves, but even their loved ones. With addiction, one problem creates another one, thus making it really challenging it put an end to it.

With such problem, Indianapolis has initiated a new statewide resource that puts drug addiction help in one location. As Indiana ranks 7^th in the country for the highest drug use, hopefully, with this initiative, they would be able to save lives and bring a better future to everyone.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indiana recently ranked seventh in the country for highest drug use. The new WalletHub study looked at a number of things including the number of teenagers using and selling drugs, the number of opioid prescriptions, drug arrests, treatment facilities and more.

And when you look at the numbers, despite the efforts we’ve seen in the past few years, the number of opioid related deaths continues to rise. In 2016, there were more than 1,500 drug overdose deaths in Indiana. Now, Addiction Policy Forum wants to offer a new resource to help people struggling with drug abuse and their families.

It’s been nearly five years since Aaron Phillips died from a drug overdose at 20 years old. His mother is still on the front lines making sure other families don’t have to endure the pain she still feels.

“Shame and stigma and denial, big barriers and I’m one to openly admit that those stood in the way of getting him help I could’ve possibly gotten him,” Justin Phillips said.

Justin says knowledge and resources could’ve helped save her son. So, she’s passing that on through her work with Addiction Policy Forum. The addiction non-profit has launched a confidential phone line manned by addiction counselors and an online portal with lifesaving resources.

“We often as families and caregivers and loved ones don’t know where to turn. We don’t have one real clear resource to help us weed through the options available for us for a loved one,” Justin said.

Drug Abuse Programs in Boise Using Medication Assisted Treatment

Drug abuse has been around for so many years now. Not only one country but almost, if not all, countries have problems with drug abuse and addiction. This is taken as a serious as it can greatly affect the person, the family, and the community. In fact, when we watch TV, read news online, or even listen to radios, there’s always news about drug addiction. A lot of drug-related crimes are also reported in different parts of the world.

Given this situation, various approaches and initiatives have been made to put an end to the problem. One of them is a drug abuse program. In Boise, Idaho for instance, they have come up with a program that aims to help people who are suffering from opioid use disorder through their medication assisted program.

Drug abuse programs in Boise, Idaho are helping people with opioid use disorders with medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Idaho currently has four places that that offer MAT programs, two locations in Boise and two in Nampa. Because of that, many of the patients come from far-away places including other states such as Oregon to obtain treatment.

One of the drug abuse programs is Raise the Bottom Addiction Treatment Center, a facility that employs MAT. Approximately 300 patients enter the facility a day looking for help overcoming their addiction.

Raise the Bottom has a few core values when it comes to fulfilling their mission and vision. Those values are grace, respect, diversity, accountability, teamwork, quality, passion, integrity, adaptability and human relationships.

Jason Austin, the executive director at Raise the Bottom, stated that some people treat addiction like it’s a low class issue but he believes it is not. He said that methadone blocks the receptors in the brain that cause opioid cravings.

He stated that the cravings tend to disappear within the first week of treatment and that their patients also begin to feel hope that they can overcome their substance use disorder.

New Rehab Center in Jackson to Focus on Opioid Addiction

Since it is considered to be a major problem, there have been various ways to deal with drug addiction. One of them is the availability of addiction treatment centers. These centers are very instrumental in helping addicted individuals to overcome their addiction and live a new and better lives. In fact, so many lives have been saved because of these centers. A new rehab center that will offer long-term drug addiction treatment services to individuals who have opioid use disorders in Jackson, Michigan.

The new Jackson County rehab center will be established by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority in collaboration with Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and Mike Hirst — a Jackson resident who began to mobilize efforts to increase access to addiction treatment and prevention after his son passed died of a heroin overdose in 2010 when he just 24 years old.

Hirst also stated that after years of grieving he learned how to believe that the death of his son Andrew could a bigger and more meaningful purpose — to help others who are going through similar battles as his son seek help.

The new drug rehab center, called Andy’s Place, will be giving patients who have opioid use disorders the option of enrolling in addiction treatment programs last either one, two or three months.
